KC Water continues to investigate the cause of a street cave-in along Southwest Trafficway between 28th Street and 31st Street.
Beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2026, traffic pattern changes will be put in place in both directions along Southwest Trafficway:
- Southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane beginning at the Interstate 35 exit ramp and continuing through the affected area.
- Northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from 31st Street to Interstate 35.
These lane reductions are expected to remain in effect for most of the day as crews continue their investigation and assess conditions at the site.
As part of ongoing work, crews have removed the median barriers separating northbound and southbound traffic to facilitate traffic flow and support investigation efforts.
KC Water is urging motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes whenever possible. Drivers who must travel through the corridor should expect delays and use caution in and around the work zone.
KC Water will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available, including any additional changes to traffic patterns and estimates when normal traffic operations may resume.
